Smooth Sailing
Description: A super scrappy head scarf to keep your hair out of your face on those breezy summer days! Smooth Sailing can be worn a multitude of ways, and the textured garter stitch keeps knots securely in place!
Smooth Sailing is a long and skinny head scarf knit flat in garter stitch using scraps of yarn. Knit in ends as you go so you’re ready to wear immediately after binding-off!
This is a great pattern for you if:
- You want a quick and mindless project for on-the-go knitting.
- You need a good scrap busting project to cull your stash.
- You enjoy practical and pretty summer accessories.
Construction: Smooth Sailing is knit flat in garter stitch.
Techniques: Garter Stitch.
Choosing your size: Your headscarf should be 10-12 in/25-30 cm longer than your head circumference when stretched as taut as you’d like to wear it.
MATERIALS
Scraps of fingering weight yarn.
GAUGE
32 sts in 4”/10 cm - worked flat in garter stitch. Row gauge is not important.
NEEDLES
Size 3 (3.25 mm) - straight or circular needles. Test knitters used sizes US2-US3.
YARDAGE/METERAGE
100-200 yards/90-180 meters
