Smooth Sailing Socks DK
The smooth sailing socks are knit up toe up and have a size range from 28 to 47.
Starting with Judy’s magic cast on, increases on either side form a nicely rounded toe. The foot is knit up easily in stockinette.
In order to accommodate a good fit for feet with normal to high arches, a wedge (gusset) is added. This will provide a wider instep as compared to normal short row heels.
The entire heel is knit in one go by using German short rows, so there is no need to pick up stitches at all.
The leg and cuff of the sock are both knit in 1x1 rib, which allows for the cuff to be folded down. By knitting with this technique, you can use up all of your yarn until the very last bit.
Difficulty: Daring beginner
Yarn: 100 gr of DK weight yarn (8-ply). For the sample, I used 100 gr of Drops Fiesta (one 50 gr ball per sock)
Gauge: 22 stitches & 32 rows in 10x10 cm
Needle size: 3,5 mm
Needles: Feel free to use your preferred method of sock knitting. The pattern works for all needles. I used magic loop for the toe, then continued on 23cm/9”inch circular needles for the rest of the sock.
Size Guide: The socks have been designed to fit comfortably and slightly snug around the foot. If you prefer a looser fit (for example if you want to wear a pair of cotton socks underneath), I would suggest going a size up.
Materials: 1 marker “beginning of round” and one marker, scissors, needle to weave in ends.
