This hat design is the second pattern of the Snow in the Mirror winter bundle using the same motifs and playing with changing the back- and foreground colours for these simple Scandinavian snowflake patterns to create a mirror effect. The crown features one of these motifs converted to work with the crown decreases.
If you have knitted a hat before and have experience with colourwork, this project can help you combining these two and will leave you feeling quite accomplished. You should be familiar with stranded knitting, be comfortable with working in the round, increasing and decreasing as well as reading from charts.

Gauge
24 sts / 29 rnds = 10cm (4in) square in stocking stitch over colourwork using 4mm / U.S. size 6 needles

Size
one size to fit head circumferences 53-56cm / 21-22in

Finished Measurements
brim circumference: 50cm / 20in
body circumference: 58cm / 23in
height: 24cm / 9.5in

Materials
The sample uses John Arbon Textiles Knit by Numbers DK yarn, which is 100% merino. It is very soft and a joy to wear.

Choose two colours with high contrast to emphasize the mirror effect. The sample colours are KBN11 (brown) and KBN55 (natural white). You need half a skein of each of the colours.

I managed to knit the Snow in the Mirror Cowl (first pattern of the bundle) and this hat from two 100g skeins (one of each of the colours).

The sample was knitted using 3.75mm / U.S. size 5 and 4mm / U.S. size 6 40cm / 16in circular needles as well as 4mm / U.S. size 6 dpns.

Have fun knitting and enjoy keeping your head warm with your new hat.
