Snowdrift Headband
When temperatures drop and the wind blows, it’s wonderful to have a snug fitting wide headband that fully covers the ears. It’s also great to have a headband that’s fully reversible without a clunky seam.
That’s how the Snowdrift Headband came to be. The undulating waves of the offset cables in this pattern resemble windblown snow drifts. The design is fully reversible because it’s knitted in K1, P1 ribbing. The faux-kitchener joining of the two ends is also fully reversible, leaving no clunky seam. Full instructions for the joining are given in the pattern.
Finished size: Width about 4 inches, circumference about 20 inches or to fit the head. You can adjust width by size of yarn and needles.
Gauge: in stockinette with size 10.5 needles, about 12 stitches and 16 rows in 4 inches.
Needles: Size 10.5 or size to obtain gauge, straight or circular.
Yarn & Yardage: 1 hank of bulky yarn (about 100 yds per 100 g). The headbands in the photos were knitted with Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky and Lana Grossa Spuma.
Many thanks to my beautiful models, Sonrisa and Ellen!
