Materials:

  • Book states: Any size thread and hook that make a firm stitch. Bedspread cotton size 10 and steel hooks size 7 or 8 are usual.
  • “For ring snowflakes made around a plastic ring, use bedspread thread such as a Lily’s Big Deal or 18th century cotton, or DMC’s Cebelia #10 and a steel size 9 US crochet hook (1.4mm). 1 1/8th, 1 3/4th, and 2 inch plastic rings by Bates, Boye, and E-Z are available in yarn and/or fabric shops.”
  • Fabric stiffener, blocking supplies. Home recipe for stiffener is included.
  • Optional cross-stitch supplies for ring snowflake centers.

The snowflakes build on a few rows from a basic pattern instruction.
Snowflakes may be crafted using a starting chain as a ring, or an adjustable loop.

Ring versions are variations of snowflakes made without rings. Both sets of instructions are included.
