Snowstar is one of 16 glorious designs in Stranded Knits, a superb technique manual and pattern collection that Ann created for Rowan Yarns. The book is available from Rowan stockists.

The sweater is knitted from the bottom up, beginning with a few rounds of ‘purl-when-you-can’ (Thanks to Mary Beth for introducing me to this method!) The armholes and front neck are steeked, then the sleeves are knitted from the top down with short row sleevecaps. Increases and decreases in the cowl collar create a ruffled look.

The PDF patterns include clearly illustrated tutorials for working the wrap and turn short row method used for the shoulder and sleevecap shaping.

The book contains illustrated tutorials for the stranded colourwork, steeking, short rows, and applied i-cord techniques used in this garment.

The tension given above is for the stranded colourwork after blocking. Tension/gauge for the sleeves and collar is 28 stitches and 36 rounds per 10cm/4” after blocking.
