The Snowy Day Hat was inspired by snow. :)
I grew up in a Michigan. (just shy of 18 years) I moved away to live in the south.
Being in the south we barely ever see snow. This year 2017, was the first in a few years that it snowed here in my part of South Carolina. I was so THRILLED. I had to document my excitement for all prosperity.

Snowy Day has a series of lace pine trees all around above the brim with lace “snow” scattered along the top part for the “sky”.

The hat pictured on the model used WIP yarns DK in the Frozen colorway. It used 68 grams(2.3 oz, 167 yards (152 meters).

Pattern calls for a US 3 (3.25 mm) and a US size 4 (3.5 mm).
It creates a nice loose slouchy hat.
You could easily size down your needles for a tighter fitting hat, which will result in using more yarn.
