Sobrante came about one day when I was looking at leftover bits of sock yarn. I weighed out one ounce increments of seven different colorways, and now I don’t have any leftovers! It’s a simple knit, with an easily memorized cable pattern along the edge, and the size is completely customizable. You can use any yarn you like. Just stop knitting when you run out of leftovers!

Finished Size: 20” depth, 80” wingspan, as written. Easily adjustable.

Yarn: Any fingering weight yarn. Sample uses 7, one-ounce amounts of Tempting Ewe Ewe So Sparkly and Neighborhood Fiber Company Studio Sock.

Needles: 32” circular needle, size 4 US (3.500mm) or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 20 stitches/26 rows, per 4 inches in blocked garter stitch; gauge is not critical for this item but will affect size, yardage used, and drape.

Note: Instructions are given for how I knit the shawl. If you have more yarn, or less, use what you have; or, stop knitting when you’re at your desired width.
