This is a simple cozy with coaster bottom to hold a standard-sized soda can. The combination of the cotton yarn, the small hook, and the reinforced spike stitch results in a sturdy weave that allows the cozy to stand up by itself--so it can also be used as a container. Exact gauge is not critical for this project; you can test the size of the cozy after the fourth or fifth row of stitches to be sure that a can will fit snugly.
