This cowl is knit in the round. It has alternating panels of lace and double moss so that it is possible to see both patterns however the cowl is worn. The reverse side is also pretty enough to be worn.

Meterage guide

The cowl as written takes slightly less than 400m/438yd of worsted weight yarn. The suggested yarns (only one is required) noted in the pattern all have differing meterages per ball, hence there are different quantities noted - Zealana HERON (at 100m/109yd per ball); Zealana KAURI Worsted (at 86m/94yd) or Zealana AIR Chunky (146m/159yd) per ball.

The pattern is shown in Zealana KAURI Worsted (colourway - Red Waina) and Zealana AIR Chunky (colourway - Gold).

This pattern best suits a soft, drapey yarn so that the cowl drapes nicely and frames the face without looking or feeling too stiff. Other suitable yarns besides New Zealand brushtail possum based yarns would be something with soft halo and drape such as yak, alpaca or mohair (not brushed). However, it would also look beautiful in a woollen spun wool yarn such as Shelter, although it will have a more substantial appearance.

This cowl is worked on a relaxed gauge to encourage drape.

The pattern best suits a knitter with some experience of lace knitting.
