This hat is knitted in a soft, worsted weight yarn, with an easy stitch pattern that feels both vintage and fresh at the same time. An oversized braided cable pairs nicely, with the all-over textured background.

Needles and Notions:
US 8 /5.00 mm 16”/40 cm circular needles, (or larger cable if you are doing magic loop), or size needle needed to obtain gauge.
US 5 /3.75 mm 16”/40 cm circular needles (or larger cable if you are doing magic loop), or size needle needed to obtain gauge.
US size 8 /5.00 mm dpns for the crown are helpful for working the crown. You can also use your circular needles magic-loop style.
Two stitch markers.
Darning needle.
Crochet needle similar in size to your needle size (if using a tubular cast on).
Scrap yarn in contrast color but similar weight (if using a tubular cast on).
A cable needle, or spare needle to do the cable work.

Gauge:
Loop pattern stitch: Counting only the rows that have the “loops” (slipped stitch rows); 15 stitches and 23 loop rows per 4”/10 cm in loop pattern using size US 8/4.00 mm needles (blocked and knit in the round).
Cable panel: 24 stitches per 3”/7.6 cm in cable pattern (in the round).

Yarn Used:
200 Yards / 180 meters of worsted weight yarn. I used about 1.5 skeins of Woolfolk Far 142 yards (130 meters)/50 grams in color 27.

Finished Measurements:
Child: (fits a child 3-10, 20” head) – 16.5 x 7.5“/ 42 x 19 cm
Teen: (fits a 21” head) – 17.5 x” 8/ 44.5 x 20 cm Adult Small: (fits snug on a 22” head) – 18.5 x 8.5” / 47 x 21.5 cm.
