Combining warm, squishy garter stitch with an i-cord edging gives a crisp finish to these simple mitts. Opt for a stylish neutral or go wild with colours. Buttons on the back of the hand give an option to accessorise- keep it simple or pick out some showstoppers.

Needles: 5.0 mm / US size 8 needles for working flat.

Yarn: 70 g heavy aran weight yarn, 166 m per 100 g.

Notions: Stitch holder, cable needle, tapestry needle, twelve 15 mm buttons.

Skills: Cast on, working flat, knit, increases, short rows, cast off, weaving in ends.

Gauge: 19 stitches and 32 rows over 10 cm / 4” in garter stitch, blocked but un-stretched. Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges may affect the size and yardage used.

Sizing: Pattern as written creates a mitt 13 cm / 5” deep and 20 cm / 7 ¾” around the palm, measured above the thumb. The palm circumference can be adjusted by adding to the straight garter section.
