Sos (meaning break, pause, or rest in Irish) came into existence during the early stages of Covid-19 lockdown. I wanted to knit something soothing, simple, and comforting while the world was being turned upside down & inside out.

Sos is a simple asymmetric shawl, worked in alternating stripes of garter stitch and stocking stitch. The pattern begins by casting on just a few stitches, and increasing as you work. Slip stitch columns create vertical stripes through the shawl, before finishing with applied I-cord edging.

The samples are worked in monochrome-ish colour pairings with a wee splash of high contrast. The Milarrochy tweed colours are surprisingly complex, with a blend of different colours in each shade. The mohair content works well with the texture of garter and stocking stitch, to create a very subtle halo.
