Cold winds and driving rain have me reaching for an extra layer of warmth. Snuggling the cosy fabric down over my ears, the almost instant warmth is a welcome relief from the winter chills. Undulating cables create a dense fabric, perfect for keeping even the coldest winter winds at bay.

Southern Ocean is the perfect winter warmer that knits up quickly in this sumptuous bulky yarn. Available in three sizes, this hat is easy to knit and can be made in a matter of hours.

The Henry: This special yarn is a collaboration between Tarndie, a farm in Victoria specialising in Polwarth and Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill, a small Victorian mill creating beautiful bespoke yarns. This yarn has been grown and processed within a 75km radius - making it very local!

I live about 250km from the farm and mill, in Victoria. Meaning this project truly is a celebration of the Victorian fibre industry.

Tarndie and Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill - Southern Ocean (chunky; 50% Polwarth, 50% alpaca; 87m / 95yd per 100g skein)
Shade: The Henry x 1 (1, 2)

Yardage note: Adult S/M used 96g. It is vital that you match gauge to ensure you can make your hat from a single skein.

6mm / US 10 circular needle 40cm / 16in length (or 80cm / 32in length for magic loop)
6.5mm / US 10.5 circular needle 40cm / 16in length (or 80cm / 32in length for magic loop)
6.5mm / US 10.5 set of double pointed needles for crown decreases, or longer circular needle for magic loop

1 stitch marker
If you want to mark each cable repeat you will need 7 (8, 9) markers. You may find it helpful to have one different coloured stitch marker to mark the start of your rnd.
