Southlander is a collaboration with Jems Luxe Fibers and is based off the show Outlander, but done in fingering weight so we in the south can enjoy it. I love the look of shawls but prefer capelets because they can be worn all sorts of ways, plus they stay around your shoulders much easier than shawls.

Southlander starts at the neckline and is shaped by increases that give it an asymmetrical shape allowing you to wear it many ways and takes on the look of a shawl.

This capelet is designed using two different stitch patterns. One is a broken garter pattern inspired by Cecelia Campochiaro’s Sequence Knitting and the other is a simple tuck stitch pattern inspired by Nancy Marchant. The yarn is Jems Luxe Luxe Sock which can be found on their website Jems Luxe Fibers.

The sizing fits a wide range of body types, but can easily be made smaller or larger by either adding or subtracting a 12 stitch repeat.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS - Asymmetric triangle = Measured from neckline to one point is 14.25 in. (36 cm) and measured from neckline to the other point is 20.5 in. (52 cm).

NEEDLE US size 3 (3.25 mm) or size needed to get gauge, 24 in. (60 cm) circular needle, graduating to a 40 in. (100 cm) circular needle.

GAUGE 20 sts and 38 rows = 4”/10 cm in broken garter pattern after blocking.
