The Sparrow Cowl is a bandana type cowl that is knit flat and seamed at the back of the neck, with a simple stitch pattern and icord edges. It increases from cast on, so it is easily adjustable for different yarn weights and sizes. The beret and mitts are written in a single size, but the cast on count can be adjusted for gauge.

The name comes from Micheal F Kane’s book “After Moses”. After I had finished the cowl I thought it had a good space cowboy vibe, so I named it after “The Sparrow”, a ship piloted by the campero wearing, gun slinging, interplanetary freelancer Matthew Cole.

This is a great pattern if you have a single skein of yarn you really want to shine: you could either knit the cowl in the single color, or stripe it. A single 100 gram skein of DK, if striped, will be enough for a cowl and hat, or a cowl and mitts, but not quite enough to finish the full set.
