Have you ever wanted to knit something lacy but were afraid you would mess up? Or maybe you’re a rebel and you like to do things a little differently? This pattern is for you! In this shawl design the lace sections are meant to be messed up. It’s like intentionally running your pantyhose, ripping your jeans or splattering paint on a t-shirt. The lace sections alternate between rows of a very basic lace pattern that’s super simple to remember and Speckle Code lace where the stitches are dictated by the color pattern in your yarn. You end up with what I like to call “Scribble Lace”. It’s obviously a lace pattern but the stitches are a bit jumbled. The randomness is subtle enough that the untrained eye may not even notice the lace sections are not perfectly patterned, but you will know, and it makes them even more fun to knit!

-A half-pi shawl made up of garter stitch and lace, with scalloped edging.

-The Speckle Code Lace will only work with speckled yarn, but the pattern can be easily adapted to work with solid, or variegated yarn by working a simple uniform lace pattern in the lace sections rather than using the Speckle Code. There is a note in the pattern explaining how to do this.
