The Speedy Cabled Beanie is an eminently customisable little hat. With an 8 stitch repeat pattern you can easily size up or down, and it can be made as long as you like – just add on an extra pattern repeat (or two or three). The decreases into the crown create a lovely tapering cable effect which reaches right to the last round.

You could add a pom pom, increase the rib depth and have a foldable brim, or make it slouchy, it’s entirely up to you. You could also use a DK yarn, smaller needles and simply add in extra pattern repeats to reach your desired size. The size m/l green hat shown here can also be worn with an unfolded brim and a little slouch. Including the pom pom it uses 170m of yarn. The plum hat is in size small/medium, uses just short of 95 metres of yarn, and fits neatly to reach just above the brow allowing the lobes of your ears to show.

Includes two sizes: s/m to fit 50-54cm circumference head and m/l to fit 54-58cm circumference head

Gauge is not crucial here, unless you are an exceptionally tight or loose knitter, and the pattern should work with most aran or worsted type yarns. If in doubt, always try knitting a swatch!
