The Speedy Mock Motif Scarf is aptly named - it is quick to make (speedy) and I think it looks like a row of joined motifs, but it isn’t (mock motif)! The finished size is 12.5 cm (5 in) wide by 190 cm (76 in) long excluding fringe or 220cm (88 in) long including fringe.

Speedy Mock Motif Scarf was inspired by a crochet stitch pattern that I first saw in Golden Hands, a craft magazine from the 1970s. The exact design also features in other patterns I have seen over the years. Although inspired by that old stitch pattern, the Speedy Mock Motif Scarf pattern is different in so many ways; most notably the pattern is more ‘closed’ creating a much denser fabric and it is worked lengthways.

The yarn is super bulky and the pattern makes up very quickly, which is ideal for those last minute gifts. It can be made in one evening – yes, that quick! As the yarn is super bulky, you will need a large hook which can be a bit tricky if you are new to crochet. Therefore I would not recommend this pattern to a beginner.

The main pattern makes a simple scarf but I added a crochet fringe to give it more interest, although this is not necessary. I used just short of 2 balls of Rowan Alpaca Chunky which is so soft.

If you are used to crochet I think you can make this in less than 3 hours!
