This fractal scarf pattern is the result of the collaboration of a mathematician and fractal artist (find more art here) and a knitting statistician. The fractal structure goes under the name spherical gasket.

The pattern calls for two 100g skeines of contrasting sock yarn. The pictured scarf was made in Malabrigo sock yarn (402m/100g) in colorway Terracotta - SW802 and Black - SW195.

The scarf is 15 cm wide and 168 cm long, but the pattern is customizable and you can choose to make it as long as you want (by repeating the chart as desired).

Gauge will influence the size of the scarf, but since it is not a fitted garment is not of big importance. The gauge of the example scarf is 29 stitches and 34 rows for 10cm in double knitting after blocking. I achieved this with 3 mm needles.

Edit: A new pattern file was uploaded, which now includes a printable version of the chart at the end of the file (chart is split up over several pages).
