This is a written pattern knitted in the round and is an easy way of using up some of all the leftover yarn that naturally accumulate from bigger projects. The size of the spider depend on the thickness of the yarn used. For a worsted quality I always go down in needle size and use a size 3.5mm it US #4 so the filling does not show.
