Spilled Milk came about in quite an unusual way. I normally know the exact journey I want to take with a pattern, down to the most insignificant detail, but this one required a bit of a detour, as I discovered a fellow designer was doing something similar about a week into the process. I frogged the whole thing, but didn’t really know where to take it. In the past, this would have upset me for days and sent me into a complete tailspin, but as I’ve progressed in this craft, I’ve learned to take a step back and recognize that yes, I could cry about it and flail and be super dramatic OR I could see it as a lesson in spontaneity and embrace it. The latter was a much better use of my time, so I just started knitting and it was really fun to just enjoy the act of creating. I tend to get so pulled into the pressure of having new work to share all the time that I sometimes forget this is supposed to be fun!

Wonderland Yarns have always given me an incredible amount of freedom with our collaborations over the years and this one is no exception. It is an absolute privilege to work with their yarn and see how the endlessly brilliant colourways play and dance across knitted fabric. I am beyond grateful for how much I’ve learned and grown as a result of these projects.

This shawl is a relaxed, meditative triangle knit using high contrast colours to create a tall glass of garter stitch micro stripes. The zig zag border is a lace you won’t find anywhere else because I created it specifically for this project. You can use two colours, seven colours, a hundred colours, however many you want to make this as small or large as you want. I found freedom in my creative expression with this pattern and I want you to be able to do the same!
