Here’s my inspiration behind https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-heartwarmer. You can download the child version for free until I release my next design

Having made “Little Heartwarmer” for babies based upon my adult version I took a look at the old pattern, dating from 2013. I gave it a refreshment, here’s the new version:))

At school a long time ago the irregular verb “Spin-span-spun” was a hard lesson to learn. Little did I know that it would pop up into my head so many years later and provide me with inspiration for this cardigan! Like the verb this cardi is irregular; in the sense of the assymetrical fronts and in the different stripe-patterns used for the body and the sleeves. And still, like the verb I find it has a beautiful rythme to it!

Design Elegant and flattering to wear - and with lots of possibilities to match with different styles; this is the cardigan that will receive comments! 2 different stripe-patterns in stockinette st and garter gives surface interest. The assymetric button bands is all that is needed to make this classic cardigan special.

ConstructionThe cardigan is knitted bottom-up and in separate pieces for fronts/back and sleeves that are seamed together. The button-bands are integrated in the knitting which means much less finishing work.
The knitting is interesting; although there are no difficult stiches there is enough variation to make it fun to work!
As the yarn was quite heavy I found it useful with the seams; this ensures that the cardigan will stay into shape even after years of use.

Sizes Finished bust measurements (after washing/blocking and worked at gauge):91/100/105/110/118cm = 36/39/41/43/46”.
The sample is worked with 12.5cm/5” positive ease.

Gauge 22 sts and 32 rows in stripe-pattern (5 rows of stockinette st, 3 rows of garter) = 10x10cm/4x4”

Materials Yarn:I used a Bluefaced Leicester wool bought at Etsy (Laalbear) to make this cardi - but there are lots of beautiful yarns out there to be explored! You might use any DK weight that knits up to gauge.
To work the cardigan you will need approximately 925/1050/1200/1300/1400meters.
Needles: size 4mm/US6 is used for the entire cardigan. You might use straight or circular needles to work the pieces.

You might use the pattern to make a sleeveless vest - see photos under Spin Span Spun for inspiration.

The pattern All measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches. There is a schematic.
