Here is a hat that combines a simple colorwork pattern with a simple cable pattern for striking effect. The hat reminded one of my friends of gene splicing which is where I got the idea for its name. At first glance it may look like a challenging knit but its not! If you can do stranded colorwork and you can cable, this will be a snap. (Personally I LOVE making things that look complicated but are, in reality, pretty easy. It feels like I’m cheating.)

The pattern can be worked in three sizes and will fit comfortably on most adults. You’ll need about 200 yds (183 m) of the main color and 100 yds (91 m) of the contrast color. Any worsted weight yarn should work just fine. I made my three hats with Cascade 220, Noro Kureyon, Patons Classic Wool and Mountain Meadow Wool.

For EU buyers: I’m using the LoveKnitting option but this is the first time I’m trying it. If you have trouble, please let me know.
