Spring Flowers Shawl
This shawl is worked with Bilum gradient yarn, and the lace patterns change as the colors change. The lace patterns go from miniature leaf, to branch, to bluebells, to tulips, with beads added optionally. The shawl can also be worked in a solid or tonal yarn. A knitted tulip “pom pom” is attached to the bottom point of the triangle
Yarn: Bilum Loli 100g, 500 m or 547 yds in #7 Lolka
Finished measurements:
In light fingering yarn on size 3 needles
18’ deep at point of triangle
74” wingspan

Needles:
• Size 3 with fingering yarn, or size needed to get gauge
• Size 5 with lace yarn, or size needed to get gauge
• Size 1 needles to knit tulip “pom pom”
Other Materials:
6/0 beads, 1 tube of each color to go with gradient or just 1 tube for solid color shawl
Crochet hook size 10/1 to attach beads (the crochet hook must fit through the bead)
Small amount of a different color to make the stamens for the tulip, optional, and 3 beads to go at the end of the 3 stamens
26-gauge wire – easy to find in craft stores
Gauge: 21 stitches over 4” in any one of the 4 lace patterns, after blocking. Getting the exact gauge is not as important as with fitted garments.
Difficulty:
For knitters experienced with lace knitting – you must be comfortable with “reading” the stitches and figuring out where you are in a chart, because the orientation changes with the decreases on one side and the increases on the other.
