Spring in the Rockies Shawl
What does spring in the Rockies look like? Lots of soft greens, the violet blue of columbine (the state flower of Colorado), and some white from the snow that hasn’t melted. New leaves and blossoms have a delicate texture against the landscape – this is what the Spring in the Rockies shawl evokes.
This crescent-shaped shawl has increases only on the sides, making for a relaxing knit. Two colors are used in the striped garter sections that alternate with a solid lace section with a floral motif.
The dramatic lace edging, in a third color, begins with a simple YO-K2tog lace section, then the “petals” are knitted in short row lace, and finished with a picot bind-off.
Finished size: After blocking:
Wingspan about 70” and depth about 19.”
Gauge: in stockinette about 20 stitches and 32 rows per 4 inches after blocking.
Needles: 32” or 40” circular in size 4 or size to obtain gauge. I tend to knit loosely so check your gauge.
Yarn and Yardage: Fingering weight yarn:
Color A, about 50 g / 200 yards (white in photo)
Color B, about 50 g / 200 yards (lavender in photo)
Color C, about 100 g / 400 yards (light green in photo)
This shawl was knitted in Auxanometer, a 100% bamboo hand-dyed yarn from Theodora’s Pearls, Jennifer Miller’s fabulous line of fibers. You can find this yarn at the Longmont Yarn Shoppe in Longmont, Colorado. Call them at 303-678-8242, or visit their website at www.longmontyarn.com. The colors used are Spring Speckle (A), Lavender (B), and Spring Green (C).
