This fairly wide scarf can be worn either as a scarf or a stole. It is 13 1/2 inches wide and 74 inches long. In the winter, if you want to wear it as a scarf, you can scrunch it as you usually do, and it will be warm. However, since it is knit with fingering weight yarn on a size (U.S.) #6 needle, it is light enough, when worn opened to be a pretty stole to protect you from the spring or fall evening chill. It also work well when going into air conditioning in the summer.

The scarf/stole has an ornate edging on both sides, allowing you to work with a lovely lace stitch, but still making this a fairly quick project to knit. It is constructed in an unusual way, but all in a single piece.

It will certainly become one of the most versatile garments in your closet, so you can be sure that it will be worn (and admired) often.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The scarf/stole was expertly test knitted by Barbara Robertson, who can be contacted at: Barb. Robertson@gmail.com and is known on Ravelry as NanaKnits4Us. The yarn used in the sample is Handmaiden’s Merino 2 - 6 fingering weight yarn in colorway, Wine. If you use the yarn featured in the pattern, you will only need two skeins to complete the project.
