This design literally creates a wearable spring scene to get you through the last little bit of winter. The brim of the hat is an earthy brown to symbolize the fertile soil that will soon thaw to make way for lush green grass and colorful flowers, which reach up toward a clear blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. And to top it all off: a big yellow pompom to represent the warm sun that we’ve all been missing lately.

In addition to painting a pleasant picture, this hat is also an excellent project for someone looking to try stranded (fair isle) knitting for the first time. Only 9 rounds of this pattern are worked stranded, and the rest are all knitted using just one color at a time.
