These stranded colourwork mittens were inspired by geometry. Squares become diamonds; horizontal lines are complemented by diagonals. The afterthought thumb allows the pattern to continue uninterrupted by shaping. The design uses three colours in total but only two in any one round. (Small areas of duplicate stitch are used to allow three-colour rounds to be worked in just two colours. A link is provided in the pattern to an online tutorial for this.)

The pattern is offered in two sizes, Women’s Small/Medium (with 8”/20cm mitten palm circumference) and Women’s Medium/Large (with 9”/23cm mitten palm circumference).
The Small/Medium mitten measures approximately 10 ½”/26.5cm long and the Medium/Large measures approximately 10.75”/27cm long when worked to pattern tension of 8sts and 10 rows to 1”/2.5cm over stranded colourwork pattern. Choose a size according to your hand size and the amount of room you prefer inside mittens.

You will need:
150 (190) yards / (137 (174) m) fingering weight yarn in colour A (shown in turquoise)
100 (125) yards / (91 (114) m) fingering weight yarn in colour B (shown in dark purple)
65 (80) yards / (60 (73) m) fingering weight yarn in colour C (shown in yellow)
