This is a very loosey-goosey pattern - it’s more of a “choose your own adventure” recipe than a real pattern.

Pick a stranded colorwork chart from your library or a favorite pattern for a motif or border, or pick a stitch pattern to keep it super-simple. Knit in the round, whipstitch the edges together, add i-cord as a hanger, and voilà, an ornament!

  • Use what you have on hand as far as needles and yarn. I used Cascade 220 because it works up to ornament size very quickly, but these would look equally great done in fingering-weight or sport-weight yarn. Just make sure you use the needle size you’d normally use for doing stranded colorwork with that weight of yarn - gauge isn’t critical, but colorwork that’s too tight or too loose will look less than wonderful.
  • I do NOT provide charts in the pattern. Look through your library, your favorite patterns, stitch dictionaries, Fair-Isle motif dictionaries and choose whatever you’d like. (Sample shown uses a motif from a horizontal border in Alice Starmore’s Charts for Color Knitting.)
