This pattern came about because a colleague wanted to give his wife a pair of mittens with squid on them, and asked if I did ‘requests’. In this case: absolutely!

We collaborated on the design: I used the basic mitten pattern I developed, but added the twisted stitch ribbing which I think looks pretty classy, and is well-suited to his wife. He drew out the squid, based on the ‘Underwater Blues’ motif by Briallen Fair.

The mittens turned out awesome, and she loved them :)

The pattern is written with basic directions for double-knitting. However, techniques such as jacquard stranding, intarsia or duplicate stitching may also be appropriate colourwork alternatives.

To modify size, change yarn / gauge.

Happy Knitting!
