This pattern is available for free.

This newborn baby hat and booties set is super cute. The free pattern for the hat is knitted in the round which means there are no seams to sew (yay!), the booties do need a little seaming across the sole and up the back, but there’s not picking up stitches (another yay!) and the squiggly rib pattern is pretty while being suitable for both a baby girl or boy.

80 m (87 yards) DK/Light worsted weight yarn)

4 mm (US 6/UK 8) double pointed needles for hat (4 mm straight needles for booties, or you can use two of the double pointed needles and knit flat with these)

1 m (1 yard) of ribbon

sewing needle to seam booties and weave in ends on hat

I knitted the hat with 4 mm double pointed needles and 8 ply (light worsted weight) yarn. I used Naturally Loyal Machine Washable DK/8ply in Grape (shade 981) and one ball made both the hat and booties with a little left over (you need approximately 80 m (87 yards), but of course you can use any type of yarn you wish). You could knit this with thicker yarn, but of course it would change the size.
