This prayer shawl is inspired by St. Martin of Tours, the 4th century Roman Soldier who after years of service laid down his arms and later became a bishop, albeit a reluctant one. He was known for his humility and untiring devotion to the poor. He is the Patron Saint for soldiers, against poverty, horses, winemakers, and many more.
The most famous story of his life occurred when he was riding in winter and encountered a beggar with little clothes. He divided his cloak with his sword and shared it with the beggar. Later that night Christ appeared to him in a dream wearing the cut cloak.

The finished dimensions are approx. 21” x 64”
There are two versions of the shawl with the instrucions:
1) The main body is knit first and then a border is added afterwards by picking up stitches all around.
2) The body and border are knit in one piece with garter stitch forming the border.

The pattern is both in written form and charted.
The amount of yarn I recommended is generous. I ended up needing 9 balls of yarn (1107 yds).
