Yarn: B; 3-ply baby yarn; 4 oz. blue and 4 oz. pink to make as photographed

Needles: number 10

Gauge: 4 stitches equal one inch

Chart: one box = 8 stitches; 2 boxes wide; 8 x 2 = 16 stitches.

To knit: This is another variation on the Log Cabin design of the quilts, which may be arranged into any number of sections including few or many rectangles, all of which may be number knitted. Turn to the graph chart for Sun and Rain and notice that the lower right sectional square has been divided into quarters. Any one of the quarters will make a blanket. The lower left quarter is here developed into a baby blanket, half pink and half blue, called Stair and Sky because of the way. the pink rectangles climb up into the blue ones.

The blanket may be made of afghan or Germantown yarn by establishing the same gauge on another needle. The advantage of this design is that when it is large enough, you cast off on any blue strip.

This pattern is interesting because it demonstrates carrying the pink yarn up the side up the blue units and then hiding that carried yarn in the pick up of the pink unit.
