Star Blossom Cap
The Star Blossom Cap is a crocheted cap featuring a beautiful textured stitch pattern, a structured brim, and an adjustable fit at the back.
The pattern includes two versions: a lighter summer cap and the Star Blossom Winter Cap, which has a warmer, slightly beret-inspired look. Both versions are based on the same construction, with a few differences along the way and different yarn weights used for the main part of the cap.
Skill level: Intermediate
Pattern languages: English (US terms) and Norwegian
Size:
One size. The fit can be adjusted using the adjustment strap.
Crochet Hooks
Summer version: 4 mm (G-6), or size needed to obtain gauge.
Winter version: 7 mm for the main part of the cap and 4 mm for the edging and brim.
Yarn & Yarn Requirements – Summer Version
DK / light worsted (Light / Weight 3, 8 ply)
2 skeins × 110 m (120 yd)
Approx. 181 m (198 yd) used.
Suggested yarns: Sandnes Garn Line, DROPS Belle, DROPS Muskat, Scheepjes Cotton Create, Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8, or Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8.
Yarn – Winter Version
For the main part of the cap:
If using a single strand: Chunky / Bulky (Weight 5, 12 ply).
Suggested yarn: DROPS Melody, or check YarnSub for suitable alternatives.
For my version, I used two strands held together:
Yarn 1: DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (25 g / 140 m)
Yarn 2: Woolevo Soft Merino (50 g / 105 m) or DROPS Merino Extra Fine (50 g / 105 m)
This combines a worsted / aran (Medium / Weight 4, 10 ply) yarn with a DK / light worsted (Light / Weight 3, 8 ply) yarn. Yarn 2 is the same yarn weight as the yarn used for the summer cap.
For the edging and brim:
DK / light worsted (Light / Weight 3, 8 ply) – the same yarn weight as used for the summer cap.
I used Woolevo Soft Merino, which is one of the two yarns held together for the main part of the cap.
Yarn requirements for the winter version:
Yarn 1: 130 m (142 yd) / approx. 24 g of DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk – used for the main part of the cap only.
Yarn 2: 238 m (260 yd) / approx. 113 g of Woolevo Soft Merino.
