Pattern description
This pattern is for a star decoration for a Christmas tree. The pattern has a firm texture and holds it shape well. Make matching stars for a themed tree, or use cotton from your stash for a colourful effect. The final star will be ~10.5 cm across.

This pattern uses UK and US crochet terms. This pattern is intermediate/confident beginner in level and suitable for those who can confidently crochet UK doubles and trebles (US single and double crochet), and can work in the round.

You can use any aran/worsted yarn you have to hand. Aran/worsted weight cotton gives a firmer fabric, but acrylic can be blocked firmly and stiffened using PVA glue. If using another yarn weight, use as small a hook as possible to keep the fabric firm. Note the size of the star will change accordingly.

To complete this ornament as displayed you will need:

  1. Aran/worsted weight cotton-rich yarn (10-11m of white and 5-6m of red)
  2. 3mm (D/3) crochet hook
  3. A yarn needle
  4. A short ribbon or cord to hang up your decoration.
  5. Pins, and a cork table mat or blocking mat
  6. Spray starch or PVA glue to stiffen the ornament

This is not a toy.
Do not hang near to flames, lights or other heat sources.
