Starflare Children's Parasol
by Jenny Amos
Starflare has been designed to fit an 8 rib parasol frame which has 12 inch spokes.
There are three panel variations, each with the same stitch count. This means that you can construct your piece in any combination of these panels you wish. For example, in the picture:
- All basic panels (green)
- Alternation of Basic and V1 (orange/ red)
- Alternation of Basic and V2 (pink)
- Alternation of V1 and V2 (white/blue)
In addition to a parasol frame, you will need:
- 280m-320m/ 56g-64g of 3ply yarn. The yarn consumption will be greatly influence by the panels you choose. The most will be approx. 320m which is 8x the basic panel. Some extra yarn will be needed to secure the points to the rib-ends, as well as if you wish to make a securing tie.
- 2.5mm crochet hook
- Good quality wood glue (for affixing top and handle of the parasol when done)
- Fabric glue to help secure knots on the ties to the rib-ends (recommended but optional)
- Superglue for fixing the rib-ends when complete (optional)
- Scissors
- Needle to weave in your ends and to help thread your work through the rib-ends
- A stitch marker or two to mark the start of each round and secure work in progress.
