Stargazy Slippers Socks
Stargazy Slippers
Inspired by the night sky over the Cornish coast, the Stargazy Slipper socks capture the moment before a storm breaks—the stillness of the dark sea, the sky scattered with stars. The textured stitches reflect this contrast, with deep tones of darkness and flashes of light above the waves.
Woven into this design is the spirit of The Mousehole Cat, a much-loved Cornish legend. It tells the tale of brave Mowzer the cat and her companion Tom, a fisherman from the village of Mousehole. When a terrible storm—imagined as the Great Storm-Cat—prevents the villagers from fishing and leaves them facing hunger before Christmas, Mowzer and Tom set out into the raging sea. As they battle the storm, the villagers light candles in their windows to guide them home—tiny stars in the night sky. With courage and heart, they return safely, saving the village. That night, they celebrate with a feast of Stargazy Pie—a true Cornish tradition.
With a balance of bold contrast and subtle texture, this pattern brings to life the shifting skies of Cornwall and the warmth of its folklore. A practical and cosy knit, it’s a tribute to resilience, community, and the magic that lives in the stories we pass down.
