Starry Night Cap
My 8yo son asked me to make him a hat with gold stars, so we designed this together. Really, it’s just a regular stocking cap with the addition of a chart I drew up one afternoon. If you want a larger or smaller hat, I suggest you adjust the gauge, as the chart repeats every 20 stitches.
Yarn: Cascade 220 Sport in light blue, medium blue and bright yellow
Needles: 16” circulars in size 3, 5 and 6, plus one set of DPNs in size 5
Gauge: 24 stitches=4” in plain st st on size 5 needles, 24 stitches=4” in color work on size 6 needles
Finished size: 20” circumference (to fit a child’s head). Ribbed brim is 3” and allows for folding. Crown decreases are 3” vertically. Notes to adjust for larger sizes are included in the pattern, but larger sizes haven’t been test knit, so continue at your own risk!
