An antique lace edge pattern reminded me of a full moon in time lapse, making its way across the sky. A nifty little star stitch pattern in the body of the shawl works well with hand-dyed variegated yarns to break up any unwanted “pooling” of the colors.

This can be knit in one color, or use a skein-dyed yarn for the MC with a coordinating solid for the lace edge.

The lace edge is knit first, then stitches are picked up along the straight edge of the lace to knit the body of the shawl. The body is knit from the center-back out using German Short Row technique to add stitches from the lace edge.

A garter stitch and eyelet edge treatment finishes this shawl as stitches from the ends of the lace are incorporated and then bound off.

Pattern includes instructions for two sizes:

Shawlette - 61” x 22” calls for approximately 220 yds of MC and 275 yds of CC

Shawl - 69” x 27” calls for approximately 420 yds of MC and 350 yds of CC
