Stash Beret
Knit this classic beret with any weight yarn in your stash.
Five yarn weights in one pattern.
I love the classic beret shape. It’s flattering, stylish, and looks great when knitted by hand. I’ve chosen a clean, hemmed brim to make this beret look polished. I’ve also used more increases and decreases than is normally found in a tam pattern, so the beret is shaped like a beret, even before it’s blocked.

• Knitting in the round
• Crochet provisional cast on:
- Make slip knot on crochet hook.
- Hold knitting needle in left hand, with left hand also hold crochet hook close to needle tip.
- Bring yarn behind and over needle, with crochet hook, pull yarn through loop on crochet hook (1 stitch made on L needle).
- Repeat Step 3 from * to * until required number of stitches are on the needle.
- Cut yarn and pull through loop on hook to knot. Tie a knot near the end of the final tail to mark where to begin unzipping the cast on.
- When time to unzip the provisional cast on, pull the yarn tail back through the last loop, and unzip the crocheting, placing the live sts on the smaller-diameter needle as they are released.

• I-cord (over 3 sts)—with RS facing, using dpns, k3, slide sts to other end of needle, pull yarn tight; repeat for desired length, ending with a K3 row.
