Transform your hot water bottle from bland to brilliant with this vibrant, striped cover. Choose to raid your stash and use a different yarn colour for each round, or pick a colour palette of repeating stripes - the pattern will help with colour ideas and tips!

The Stashbusting Hot Water Bottle Cover is written in two sizes - to fit a standard two litre hot water bottle, or a mini 750ml bottle. This removable cover is crocheted from the top down using moss stitch, a simple combination of single crochet (US terminology) and chain stitches, with a ribbed section of front and back post double crochet stitches added to keep the neck of your bottle cosy.

A satisfyingly quick project that works up fast, this pattern is suitable for abilities from confident beginners upwards. You will need to be familiar with single and double crochet stitches (US), and working front and back post stitches. Written in English using US terminology, this pattern features photos to illustrate the trickier parts of the pattern, along with links to YouTube video clips to demonstrate stitches and techniques.

You will need:

  • approximately 148 - 237m (162-257yds) of DK (light worsted, #3) weight yarn, depending on size. I used approx 80g of Stylecraft Special DK for the 2 litre size; 70g for the body, and 10g for the neck.
  • a 4mm hook (or size required to achieve gauge)
  • stitch markers x2
