This scarf or cowl uses different combinations of knit and purl stitches to create different textures.
Starting with the easiest, garter stitch, it is designed for beginner knitters to learn how knit and purl can be used.
Working two-three times through the five different textures will make a cowl (three times will loop twice around your neck), or repeat four to five times (or more) for a scarf.
Any 8 ply can be used.
The instructions could be followed with a worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles: a wider scarf would result.
