This is the pattern for Cardigan C only of the Steps to Stranded Baby Cardigan packet. For the whole packet (at a discount!), see the pattern page for Steps to Stranded Baby Cardigans.

Cardigan C makes use of a hybrid mosaic knitting technique to produce “fair isle” looking patterns over single rows by using a circular needle -- even though it looks complicated, you never have to knit with more than one color yarn at a time! It uses about a pair’s worth of sock-weight yarn for the MC, about 75-100 yards (the amount often left over after socks) of A, and less than 50 yards of B.

The pattern is perfect for intermediate knitters who have been wanting to try stranded fair isle knitting but would like an easier first step. If the sleeves are knit in the round, the cardigan requires no seaming at all, but the pattern also includes fully illustrated, clear directions for how to do every technique besides knit and purl included in the pattern (including mattress stitch seaming).
