The Still Day Skirt is worked from the top down in the round, then finished flat after the slit is introduced. The construction is intuitive and rhythmic, with shaping created by evenly distributed increases in the ribbing.

The skirt is designed to be worn with a close fit and relies on vertical ribbing for both structure and stretch. The waistband is worked in K2, P2 rib and can be worn as is or folded to insert elastic for additional support.

The body is worked in K2, P6 ribbing, with a central braid panel placed at the front. The braid is simple and rhythmic, making it easy to memorise after a few repeats.

Shaping from the waist to the hip is achieved by increasing the purl sections. This keeps the knit columns clean and uninterrupted, allowing the texture of the ribbing and braid to remain the focus.

The slit is placed at the side of the skirt. From that point, the work is continued flat, with two knit stitches on each side forming clean, stable edges. Because the slit begins mid-round, the hem is finished with a small adjustment to balance the rows before binding off.

The pattern was developed and knit in size M. Other sizes are included as a guide and are based on the same construction method. As the skirt is worked top down, it can be easily adjusted in length, slit height, or fit while knitting.

Yarn used in the sample is Drops Flora held double, creating a soft fabric with good stitch definition. A similar fingering-weight yarn held double, or a light aran-weight yarn, can be substituted.
