This design is the eighth of a series—twelve explorations of different knit-purl stitch patterns throughout 2025. This “Little Lattice” stitch pattern is one that you frequently see on fisherman’s ganseys, and it can be seen in larger-sized motifs as well. It’s not reversible, but the right side shows a rather elegant, little pattern that reminds me of a simple, woven jacquard fabric. The pattern document includes general instructions for working the “Little Lattice” stitch flat and in the round, as well as specific instructions for a sample square, and a bandanna cowl. It also includes a few designer ideas to help inspire your own designs featuring the “Little Lattice” stitch pattern.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • increasing with a backwards loop cast-on
  • seaming garter stitch edges together.
