Stovepipe Hat / Cowl
I designed this hat for my nephews. Wear it with the drawstring pulled tight as a hat, or with the drawstring loosened as a cowl. The K2P2 rib is very springy, allowing this hat to fit many different head sizes. The drawstring is threaded through a row of eyelets a couple of inches from the top, and fastened with a cord with an optional drawstring cord lock. My husband suggested adding an extra flap for covering ears and back of the neck. The flap requires additional yarn. Although the flap is knit before the main part of the hat, instructions for the flap are at the end of the pattern. Also included are instructions for a cable in the rib.
Size: adults. The rib is springy, will fit many sizes.
Materials:
1 skein Plymouth Encore, 2 skeins are recommended if you are knitting the neck flap
1 on-needle stitch marker
OPTIONAL: 1 drawstring cord lock
Skills Needed:
This pattern is appropriate for the advanced beginner knitter. Uses Cast On, Knit stitch, Purl stitch, working in the round, Knit 2 Together, Yarn Over Needle, measure Gauge, Bind Off. In addition, for the neck flap, you need to perform the backward loop cast on and a make one increase.

Here’s how I feel about my copyright and your knitting. I really love this “movement” that is happening right now, where skilled handcrafters are benefitting from selling their craft to people who do not have the skill or inclination to craft for themselves. (You are really doing them a service. Everyone deserves something handmade.)
There seems to be a question as to the legality of selling something made from another’s copyrighted pattern, and I decided to cut through the legal mumbo jumbo and give explicit permissions for what you’re probably already doing.
Therefore, You have my permission to make and sell products based on my pattern. If you could, I’d like to be given credit for designing it. I’d really appreciate the mention.
Now we can all get back to enjoying our knitting, while helping the Muggles to stay warm and comfy.
