Stranded Sloth Hat
The sloth head hat slows down my original moose hat with a happy-go-lucky furry creature. The pattern consists of a repeating pattern of sloth heads around the crown of the head. The chart shows a grey palette with 4 shades, and the sample hat is done in brown with 3 shades. Play around with the colours to suit your personality. The pattern includes instructions for adult, teen, child, pre-school, toddler, and baby sizes. The adult hat has a separate pattern for a slouchy hat (my personal favourite) or a beanie which can be lengthened or shortened according to your preference. Happy knitting!
My hats are knit using Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn, but I find Bernat Super Saver knits similarly. If mixing brands, make sure the weights for each colour are the same to ensure a consistent tension and smooth transition between colours.
Colours featured in this pattern:
Impeccable Tweed, Loops & Threads: soft taupe, chocolate
Impeccable Solid, Loops & Threads: heather
Needles:
#1 4.0 mm (size 6) double pointed needles or whatever size is needed for the gauge
#2 4.5 mm (size 7) double pointed needles
#3 5.0 (size 8) double pointed needles (optional, used for hat with lining)
To slightly increase or decrease the size of the hat, adjust the size of your needles.
Gauge:
Using the #2 size needles: 17 stitches and 24 rows makes a 10 cm (3.9 inch) square. Stranding in this hat requires running the unused yarn behind your work. Make sure to keep these runs relaxed, or the hat will be too tight.
