Relic bags in period were knitted at a much smaller gauge; around 17.5 sts per inch. This one is knit in worsted weight at 5.25sts per inch because it’s much easier to learn on. The bags I referenced were relic purses from the 14th century. The source is unknown but 5 of them are in the treasury of an ancient cathedral at Sion in western Switzerland and one is at Chur in the east of the country. All 6 are knitted of silk in red, green, blue, violet, beige and white. This pattern only uses two colors for ease of learning.

You will need 80yds each of two colors of yarn. High contrast looks better.
