Stratified mitts
This pattern is a fab skill builder, using simple stitches to create texture. Perfect for using up leftovers of DK yarn – try colourblocking the rib edgings or using scraps to make stripes.
Purchase the mitt instructions, receive cowl and headband instructions too.
Yarn: DK weight yarn, approximately 200 m per 100 g.
Mitts - 55 (60, 70, 75, 80) g
Shown in:
Biches & Bûches Lillemor’s Pure Wool; DK; 100% wool; 100 m / 109 yds per 50 g.
Hook: 4.0 mm / G-6 or size to achieve gauge.
3.5 mm / E-4 or one size smaller than gauge hook.
Notions: Tapestry needle.
Skills: Chain, double crochet, half treble, working into back loop, seaming, weaving in ends, blocking.
Gauge: 20 stitches and 16 rows over 10 cm / 4” in texture pattern after blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges will affect the finished size and yarn required.
Sizing: The mitts have a palm circumference of 15 (17, 19, 21, 23) cm / 6 (6¾, 7½, 8½, 9¼)” and a length of 20 cm / 8”. Suggested ease is from 2.5 / 1” negative to zero ease.
